On September 17 of this year, we lost a very close friend of ours to leukemia. This young man was my husband's best friend, my best friend's husband, and our children's godfather/adopted uncle. I have very few memories of dating my husband that don't also have our friend in them.
Today would've been our friend's 28th birthday. Tonight, we met his wife and road to the cemetery as a family. His wife took a "Happy birthday" sign to place next to his flowers, and we all told him happy birthday. Even the kids took part in wishing him a happy birthday in his new home in Heaven.
It's so sad to think that he was taken from us at such a young age, that he will never dance with our little girl (who he had an incredible bond with) again here on earth, and that he won't be here with us to celebrate all the birthdays and Christmases to come.
Each day, we are reminded of how much we miss him, and he will always remain dear to our hearts.
