My hubby was laid off in September and hasn't had much luck finding a job since then. He worked for a concrete plant that had seen a significant drop in business due to the poor economy. People just weren't building, so there really wasn't much need for concrete. No new buildings meant no new foundations, parking lots, or driveways, and they certainly weren't pouring any pools.
Slowly but surely, we've noticed that there has been an increase in the number of concrete trucks on the roads lately. While there isn't much in the way of new building going on, there has recently been an increase in people wanting patio designs and driveway designs. This new trend has been keeping driveway pavers busy as people look for ways to remodel their current homes and change the looks of their yards rather than getting a new home.
This increase in work for concrete companies hasn't called for enough demand to bring my hubby back to work, but he's looking into a new career anyway. However, if nothing else comes through, he might just decide to find out more about working in this new field of concrete design. He might just find that he likes it!
