Today is the first day of school! Since Monster Man is now in middle school, he wanted to get a little bit of a makeover. He and Angel Baby both wanted highlights. After Monster Man got a haircut yesterday (Angel Baby had hers a few weeks ago), I brought the kids home and highlighted their hair.
The kids were so anxious to see their friends and to start the new school year that they were all awake before 6am. Little Man's school opens doors at 7:05, and his bus will usually get here around a little before that. Monster Man and Angel Baby didn't have to get on the bus until after 8:00. Needless to say, they had a long wait from the time they woke up until the time they left for school!
Little Man started kindergarten today. I drove him to school for the first day, though he is insistent that he will ride the bus home today (I usually pick the kids up their first day each year). He also informed me that he will be riding the bus to school tomorrow morning because he is a big boy and doesn't need my help. He's growing up way too fast.
Angel Baby is now a seventh grader. She is hoping that this will be a turn-around school year for her since last year was a little rough on her. Her grades had slipped, partially due to a persistent illness she had last school year that we weren't able to get rid of until the middle of the year. She is looking forward to this being a fresh start for her.
Monster Man started sixth grade. Middle school is very exciting for him, though he was a little nervous. He, like his sister, is looking forward to the fresh start that this new school year (and new school) is offering him.
After Little Man was settled in his kindergarten class, I came home to get Angel Baby and Monster Man out the door. We had a little extra time for a fun photo session. They enjoyed posing together for a few pictures.
I'm glad that they are getting along now. I don't think it will last long knowing that they are in the same social studies class (since it's a gifted class, the teacher is able to combine the grades in one class). It will be interesting, to say the least.
We are all looking forward to a great school year!
